A Heavy Equipment Operator I (HEO I) position is currently vacant.  Current regular County employees who meet the criteria may apply.

 

This position involves skilled work in the operation of public works equipment.  The candidate must operate equipment with complex controls requiring a relatively high degree of skill and manipulative ability.   The candidate may rotate among the various pieces of equipment as workload changes or other types of construction equipment are included.  Must also perform manual labor when not operating equipment.  Work is performed under the general supervision of a higher level employee who determines work priority and reviews assignments through periodic inspections of desired results.  This employee will be required to operate several types of heavy equipment proficiently, primarily loaders and dump trucks.

 

Some of the essential duties and responsibilities are:

 

Ø      Operation of pick-up trucks, cars, and fuel trucks

Ø      Operation of loader; mining rock, loading trucks, clearing ditches, constructing turn-offs

Ø      Exercising skill and care in the operation of assigned equipment

Ø      Performing service on equipment as well as protect property from damage

Ø      Performing manual work associated with equipment usage

Ø      Performance of light/operator maintenance on vehicles

Ø      Thorough knowledge of general practices of safe, efficient operation and care of a variety of heavy road construction mobile equipment

Ø      Ability to safely operate equipment under all types of weather conditions on rough terrain

Ø      Ability to make minor repairs to equipment

Ø      Ability to perform physical work related to the job

Ø      High degree of skill in the operation of various types of heavy, complex equipment

Ø      Thorough knowledge of laws and County regulations and policy pertaining to equipment operation

 

A successful candidate should have graduated from high school or received GED and have progressive responsibilities with one year experience operating various heavy equipment or a combination of training and experience.  Possession of a valid Florida CDL license, Class B is a qualification requirement.

 

This position is non-exempt from the Fair Labor and Standards Act (FLSA).  The salary range for this position is $9.31 - $12.15.
