 FLOOD ZONE TYPES

 

C-ZONE: Areas of minimal Flooding.  Considered a non-flood zone and there are no special   requirements for building in this zone.

B-ZONE: Areas between 100 and 500 year flood, subject to 100 flooding with average depths less than 1 foot.  There are no special requirements for building within this zone.

A-ZONE: Areas of 100-year flood.  Base flood elevations and flood hazard factors not determined.  The requirements for this area are; all habitable structures are elevated 24 inches above grade to the lowest horizontal member (girder / joist).

A1-A30 (NUMBERED A-ZONE): Areas of 100-year flood, base flood elevations and flood hazard factors determined.  Structures in this zone must be elevated to the base flood elevation shown on the FEMA Flood maps.  Numbered A zones require a benchmark survey before a permit can be issued and an elevation certificate before power will be turned on.  The benchmark survey and elevation certificate must come from a Florida registered surveyor.

V1-V30 (VELOCITY ZONE): Areas of 100-year coastal flood with velocity (wave action), base flood elevations and flood hazard factors determined.  Structures in these zones must be designed by a Florida registered Engineer or Architect and be elevated to the base flood elevation found on the FEMA flood maps.  These zones require a benchmark survey before a permit can be issued and an elevation certificate before power will be turned on.
